Nothing to Say

by Joe Vitale on June 11, 2007

Last week I was placed in front of a video camera twice and filmed, once for a movie to be released in September and another for a DVD to be released next week.

Both times I had nothing to say and almost didn’t do the filming.

Both times I didn’t stop talking for almost 45 minutes.

How is that possible?

I learned a long time ago that even if I felt I had nothing to say or write, if I just started talking or writing, something would appear. More often than not, that something ended up being pretty darn good.

Decades ago, when I was studying great authors, I learned that they often sat down with no idea what they were going to write. But they wrote anyway. They trusted their unconscious to deliver something. It always did.

I think too many of us talk ourselves out of even trying.

Yes, sometimes what you write or say will have to be revised afterwards. That’s why we have editors and editing software.

But, surprisingly — and I say that literally as I’m still amazed at how this works — what comes out of “nothingness” is often brilliance.

My tip for today is to trust yourself more. Don’t refuse to speak or write because you have nothing to say. When the time goes, something will surface and you just might surprise yourself by what comes through you.

Ao Akua,

PS — When I began this post, I literally had “nothing to say.” I started typing anyway. Now look.

Hey Joe,

Did you write this post just for me? The other day I was driving and I thought, I wonder if Joe would talk to me about over coming my blocks to writing my first book. I got home and opened my email and there was an invitation to submit a question for you for an interview you’ll be doing later. So I submitted my question about over coming limiting beliefs around book writing. And here you’ve answered it! I just love all of this manifestation stuff. I don’t know why it still amazes me every time it happens..been doing it for years…but still just get such a thrill. Thanks for answering my “universal” question!

Boy, what a great post! I’d love to have posts this good with “nothing to say”.

Once again you have blown me away, with the truths in this post. I am one of those who talk myself out of writing, even though my “soul” has been screaming for me to write for years.

My brain tells me I have nothing to write about….

Well, I am off to write we’ll see what comes out!

Till then, I can’t wait to read your next “nothing to say” post!!

I love your new masthead, Paisan! Your headshot is portrays a man who is genuinely at ease with himself and others, more “open” and serene than the face appearing in the flames with the HOT car!
The blue sky and puffy clouds are spacious, uplifting – my spirit SOARS!
(Course, my astrological house is filled with air and fire, so either way – ya got me!)
Gotta ask: are there subliminal words embedded in those clouds?!
Ciao,
Lauralyn

I read your blog and couldn’t imagine you having nothing to say! Every time I have read your blog, or a book of yours or was fortunate enough to hear you speak you given such wonderful and practical adivce that anyone can use!

Tonight I was inspired by your post! I took your advice, sat down and finished a project I’ve been working on. I had been suffering from writers block for days! So even though you started out, as you said in your blog, with nothing specific to talk about you wrote a very inspiring post and helped me to finish a project I should have finished days ago! Thanks! =)))

P.S. I preordered your book Zero Limits and I’m literally counting the days till I get your book from Amazon. I wish they could move up the release of “The Key” October is a really long time to wait !!!

Hi Joe!

Congratulations on your new blog – it looks great – blue is beautiful and the header is really nicely done!!

I appreciated reading your post because it reminded me of something….Often, when I sit down to paint, I have no idea what I am going to paint – it just flows out and ends up being something quite interesting, intriguing or amazing! Why would that not be the case with writing? Your post has inspired me to “keep my mind open” and move through the hesitation I often feel when I “think” of what I am to say. Thank you for that gift!

Grazie!

Love, Peace & Joy,
Nancy

This is good. I am going to try this. Too often I sit down and there is nothing to write and I get stopped by that nothingness. Next time, I am just going to start typing something and see what flows out of nothing, and if it’s awful and makes no sense…. I’ll just blame you Joe!

In Gratitude,

Amy

Ah, nothingness. The brilliance that meditation and living joyfully brings. It guides us to nothing, so that we’ll end up with a wonderful something

Thanks for the tips. I don’t like it when I get writers block or when I think I don’t have anything to talk about.

Your new blog looks awesome, and congrats on your book becoming a best seller. I can’t wait to read Zero Limits.

Hey Joe,
You always have something to say and you are brilliant. I love your posts. As a writer myself I often find that its exactly when I don’t plan my writing and just let it out, it does, even when I have a keynote to do in front of thousnds of people.
Thanks for all your great programs and material

 The primary reason I’m saying hi,
is just to say, your graphic is quite beautiful Joe.

The other reason I’m saying hi,
is to comment on your blog entry.

And that is just to relate an experience of my own
in response to your wise words.

I was sitting in circle with a couple of people
the other day…
And towards the end part of a song came through
me that I will be using as a product later on.
One friend, who’d just spoken about his
daughter that has died a couple of days ago
as being the best woman bull rider in Canada,
asked me to write a song for him.

I thought he meant right there and then.
So I did, I made up the song on the minute.
Sang it straight out, much to his surprise.
(If only I could have recorded it – now I only
remember the main jist of it)

My gift is my song – but it took me years
to allow myself to just let go and sing
whatever came out – especially in front
of other people – and trust that is was all OK.

Thanks Joe,
I always love your writing.

P.S. The gift is inside each one of us.
If you know how to breath – you know how
to do just about anything.

Hi Joe!

I have had several “books” in me for so long and your comments just might give me the push I need to sit down and start writing. My friends always say I should write a book because I can tell a good story. I also wrote a speech I delivered at my sister’s wedding four years ago that still has people talking. I did write a children’s story but have done nothing with it. Why is that? I also have another children’s story I have told orally to several people and they ask why I haven’t written it down. What is holding me back? I just need to do it regardless of the outcome! Thank you for your blog!

I am a Freelance Web copywriter and would like to share what I’ve experienced.

When I sit down to write many a times I get darn good ideas that are extremely creative in the sense that they really motivate me to write but I keep feeling of being too good to myself. Now why is that? I want you to tell me please…..!!!
